There are 3 main categories of
music video which include
Performance Based videos
-Using a range of different performing arts to show talents and movement's for daily activities/lives of the performers such as showing a dance's choreography that contrasts with the sounds to have a major impact on the audiences visual response.
Narrative Based Videos
Narrative is more focused around the idea that the artist is going through the motions and atmosphere that the single gives off and is applied to visuals for example Banners 'Shine a light' has the narrative based on a boy character who is involved in a motorcycle crash which then leads onto the story of the recovering hi girlfriend from abductors which then leads to there escape and fight for freedom. Narrative give off the impression of a small film linking to the themes of the style/genre for the music. Narrative can also be based on the artist/artists personal experiances or life life story.
Concept Based
Its the basis of the artist/artists goes with an abstract idea that has its own unique way of showing the lyrics in different forms for example image is used Sam Sparrows 'black and gold' as it uses men in black suits's with golden sparks falling from the sky, this creates an exotic style of song choice and leaves an obvious lyrical impression.
By seeing Bastille's website, the content is appropriate for both audience interested in the style for example the first feature that stands out is the use of the mouse is a spot light searching through the back ground of a crowd so already the feeling of a concert is implemented heavily as that where they perform the most. Its easy guidance to navigate through the website which then leads to simple text that easy to read and give off a welcoming feeling as if you were new to their style.
We decided to use basic shots but at different camera angles to showcase our artist as the main point of focus/ centre of attention. Inconsideration to our product we are hoping to include shots like:
Close up- to show the depth of reaction our artist has to the lyrics.
Extreme close up- indicates a symbolic reference to the atmosphere.
Medium shot- establishes our artist and makes it more appealing to see the artist at an average view.
Long shot- like a mis-en-scene but just to show more of the representation of an establishing shot to where our artist chose to sing his song.
panning from medium shot (left and right)- to see our artists focus from different perspectives.
Wide shot- to establish focus and get a feel for our artists surroundings.
Role: is of Adam being him self as the solo artist for the single Pompaii by Bastille.
Actor: is Adam Graver acting as him self in our production in the set of a drama room to shoot for camera angles.
Costume: Adam wears an overall black suit with an under white shirt (casual but still smart) shows the artist as a serious but yet laid back approach to the music style.
Ken Stimpson Community School (black drama studio for scenes of shots of artist and emotional attachment to the video)
Cuckoos Hollow (Werrington)
Urban footage of Peterborough (Queens gate)
As we have made our own version of a song and changed a few bits about it, for example the back ground singers were not needed in our LIVE version and have come to the conclusion we do not need to send a permission letter due to the reason of splicing it down e.g. like when people sing and post it on you tube its not retrieved due to lyrical copy right reasons. Plus its like our own take on the original.
